“WE ARE MEZCAL PEOPLE”
Gente de Mezcal (‘Mezcal People’) is a small, independent, Mezcal-producing company founded in 2015 by Hardey Martínez and Juan Carlos Muñoz Flores. The founders are passionate about small-batch production, local sustainability, the promotion of Mexican Mezcal culture and the work of the Maestro Mezcaleros at the heart of it. In 2019, at their first ever competition, Gente de Mezcal received one Double Gold and two Gold medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for their Tobalá, Tepeztate and Espadín productions. Since 2018, they have been exporting their award-winning Mezcals to the UK via sailboat, all part and parcel of their business philosophy.
Made from 100% Tobalá agave in the Oaxaca region of Mexico. Following traditional production methods and ancestral knowledge from the Oaxaca communities, the piñas (or hearts of the agave plant) are baked in the ground and then crushed with a stone mill before being fermented naturally.
Tobalá won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2019.
Smells like a humid jungle after the rain. This wildest of agaves from a fifth generation master comes on strong with herbal tones and a deep lasting flavour like a simmering home cooked beef broth, lightened up by a touch of rosemary.
